Dr. Van Alphen is a healthcare executive and board-certified psychiatrist building scalable, outcomes-driven behavioral health models at the intersection of population health, technology, and clinical excellence. Her background spans academic medicine, community psychiatry, and high-growth healthcare organizations, giving her deep experience translating strategy into measurable impact across both value-based and fee-for-service settings.

At Author Health, Dr. Van Alphen supports the organization's growth and oversees population health, leading clinical strategy, operations, and workforce development to improve outcomes for older adults living with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, and dementia. Her work centers on expanding timely access to care, reducing avoidable utilization and total cost of care, and embedding measurement-based, data-driven practices into everyday clinical workflows at scale.

Previously, as Chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Atrius Health, part of Optum, Dr. Van Alphen led system-wide transformation serving over 675,000 patients — eliminating psychiatric waitlists, shortening referral-to-care timelines, and launching integrated, value-based programs across primary and specialty care. She also served as Chief Medical Officer of North Suffolk Community Services, where she drove major technology integration efforts, led the organization's COVID-19 response, and advanced reverse medical-behavioral health integration in outpatient mental health clinics. She currently serves as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and is passionate about building clinical teams and environments where clinicians can do their best work. Outside of work, Manjola loves to stay active, brings a chef's level of skill and creativity to cooking, and pursues language learning as a way to explore new cultures.
